How do populations grow naturally
Birth rate inc or death rate dec
What happens in stage 1 of the demographic transition model
High birth rate and death rate, isn’t much change in population, poorly developed country, mostly primary sector work eg farming
What happens in stage 2 of the demographic transition model
Death rate begins to decrease while birth rate stays high, population increase, country becomes to develop and spends money on health care progressions
What happens in stage 3 of the demographic transition model
Death rate continues to decrease and birth rate also decreases, population expands rapidly, women gain more rights to work and education means less kids
What happens in stage 4 of the demographic transition model
Birth rate and death rate much lower, population still inc due to migrants that come for jobs and better quality of life
What is a problem with the demographic transition model
Doesn’t take into account countries whose development worsens eg Naturpark disaster or co flicht

It’s unevenly distributed, a lot more densely populated in cities and along the south coast, rapid growth in areas of economic development

Advancements in medicine, clean water, immunisation to disease

Political relations, economic opportunities, migrants fleeing conflict, perception of better quality of life

Commonwealth act in 1962- restricted commonwealth migrants to only skilled migrants, development in transport e.g containerisation and aircraft which accelerated goods and people
