May you view a sighting twice during game drive ?
Yes but guides that have not been in the sighting get preference over a second viewing
How long are you allowed to be in a sighting?
20 min for big 5, cheetah and wild dog
30 if you were following up
What should you not do to animals in a sighting?
Do not cause stress to animals
What should you do when an animal approaches your vehicle?
Give way to not influence the comfort zones of the animal
Where are you not allowed to take your standby ?
Not visible to the sighting and also not in the direction if it is a mobile sighting
What should you do if there is a obstacle in the road ?
Move it out the way if possible otherwise call the lodge concerned to move it(large trees)
Are you allowed to drink alcohol on drive ?
No but water is allowed
What happens to litter on game drive ?
Geust litter to be placed in bags provided
What do you do with litter you find on drive ?
Pick it up or in extreme cases report to relevant head guide or manager
What must guests do during drive ?
Keep clothes on and stay seated
May guests occupy the tracker seat ?
No
What happens when you enter a sighting and the vehicle leaving is still in the sighting?
You are only allowed to enter a sighting when the vehicle leaving has left
If the leaving vehicle hasn’t left park outside the sighting and tell that vehicle to leave immediately
How many vehicles are allowed in a tracking exercise at a time ?
Max 4 all other vehicles to avoid the area
What is the protocol when asked to leave a sighting?
When asked to leave by a senior guide he must not question it and leave immediately, management to take future action after game drive and can follow up via telephone
What is the speedlimit during drive ?
25 kn/h
What is the protocol with regards to moving vehicles during a static sighting ?
Only one vehicle to be mobile at a time and must announce his intentions
What is the protocol with regards to puddles
Drive through puddles not around them
Who is allowed to close sighting ?
Only head guides and/or managers if you feel a sighting needs to be closed contact a head guide
How many vehicles are allowed per sighting?
Max of 3 vehicles in a static sighting
2 in mobile unless conditions allow for 3
What is the specific protocol with a wild dog sighting ?
Mobile wild dog sightings are always 3 vehicles
What is the protocol when two sightings joins ?
The stations in the mobile sighting joining the static sighting will fall back to standby whilst the other stations in the static sighting take preference
Are guides and trackers allowed to follow tracks in low light conditions?
No
Are children allowed to be on the tracker seat when crossing over on to another property ?
No
Should land owners conducting a game drive follow the protocols and radio procedures ?
Yes they must also follow the protocol and procedures
