General Questions - Cathay Pacific Assessment Flashcards
(45 cards)
What are the various ETOPS categories?
Normal extended twin operations (ETOPS) categories vary between 60 and 180 Minutes.
What are the ICAO holding speeds up to 14,000 ft?
230 kts
What are the ICAO holding speeds from 14,000 ft to 20,000 ft?
240 kts
What are the ICAO holding speeds from 20,000 ft to 34,000 ft?
265 kts
What are the ICAO holding speeds above 34,000 ft?
M0.83
Define ISA.
International Standard Atmosphere (ISA) at mean sea level (msl), pressure 1013.25 hPa, temperature of 15°C.
What is tropopause?
The tropopause is the atmospheric boundary between the troposphere and the stratosphere.
What happens to TAS if you climb out at 300 kts IAS to FL 300?
True Airspeed will increase.
What happens to Mach Number if you climb at a constant equivalent airspeed / EAS?
Mach Number increases.
What happens to Angle of Attack if you climb out at Mach .84 to FL 350?
The angle of attack increases.
Why use winglets?
Reduction of drag (Reduction of wingtip vortices).
What does EGPWS stand for?
Enhanced Ground-Proximity Warning System.
What are the inputs to EGPWS?
- Radio Altitude
- Airspeed / Mach number
- Landing gear and flap position
- DH setting.
Explain balanced field length.
A balanced field length exists when TODA = ASDA.
Can clearway be used for takeoff or stop portion of T/O calculations?
No.
Can hurricanes and typhoons form over land?
No.
When is typhoon season in Hong Kong?
Typhoons may affect Hong Kong any time between May and October, most likely between mid-July and late September.
What is V1?
Decision Speed.
What is VMCG?
The minimum control speed on the ground.
What factors affect VMCG?
- Temperature
- Air density
- Runway condition (Wet/Dry)
- Engine power settings
- Crosswinds.
Relation between V1 and VMCG?
V1 can’t be lower than VMCG.
What the vortex generators do?
They energize the boundary layer, delaying flow separation and aerodynamic stalling.
Advantages of aft Center of Gravity?
- Fuel sufficient
- Less drag.
Explain VMCA.
Is the minimum control speed in the air for a multi-engine aircraft.
