Generation Flashcards
(5 cards)
What is electromagnetic induction?
Current induced to flow through a wire when the wire passes through a magnetic field at rectangles to the field’s direction.
What does an electrical generator do?
Means of converting mechanical energy into electrical energy.
What does a generator or alternator consist of?
A rotating part mechanically driven by the engine (the rotor) and a stationary part fixed into the frame of the device (stator).
What are the two key components of a generator or alternator?
A magnet to generate the magnetic field
A loop of conducting wire in which a current is induced to flow.
What is the difference between a generator and alternator?
DC generator has rotating coil and a stationary magnetic field.
DC alternator has a rotating magnetic field and stationary coil.
