What is a toggle switch?

A

Has a protruding operating lever with two or three selectable positions.

What is a rocker switch?

A
Are more flush mounted with two or three selectable positions. 
Examples: 
master switches 
Switches for fuel pumps
Landing lights 
Pilot heater on light aircraft

What is a push switch?

A

May incorporate an illuminated message within the switch, known as switchlights.
Example: common in overhead panel of modern airliner.

Sometimes automatic control if some circuits is required, how can this be achieved?

A

Thermo switches - which are temperature sensitive and activate at pre determined value to either give a warning to the pilot or automatically switch a circuit on or off.

Time switches - either mechanical or electrically controlled to activate a circuit when a preset time interval has elapsed.
