Genetics after Mendel Flashcards
(6 cards)
Define mono hybrid cross
A cross between two individuals that are hybrid for one trait
Distinguish between codominant and incomplete dominance
When an offsprings phenotype is a combination of the parents phenotype. ( white flower crossed With red flower gives all F1 pink flowers) In this case neither allele is dominant.
In the other hand when both alleles Can be observed independently in a phenotype it is called co-dominance. ( if a child receives allele type A from one parent and allele type B from another parent when he or she will have blood type AB.
Define polygenic inheritance
Polygenic inheritance occurs when multiple genes determine the phenotype of a trait
Explain how the pedigree is used
Since pedigree shows genetic traits that were inherited by members of a family then a pedigree helps determine whether the truth is a genetic link
Define mutation
Mutations any permanent change in the sequence of DNA
What’s Role can mutation play in the inheritance of Diseases
If mutation occurs in the reproductive cells Leading to the formation of a disease then this disease will be inherited to offsprings
