What is a topographical map
its a map that indicates relief of a build of a region, either in buildings, mountains, rivers, but its actually just a town.
What are the elements of a topographical map
build up areas
contour lines or reflief
drainage
infastructure
vegetation
VID BC
What does a topographical map have
colour
drawing
sumbols
contour lines or buildings
What do contour lines represent
they represent height
either close= steep/ mountain
far away= gentle slope
What are the three different types of scale
line scale
word scale
ratio scale
Are maps 3D or 1D and explain why
maps are one dimensional because we see them from the top
Explain a map
maps are flat and are drawn on paper
this means that height width and depth isn’t indicated, so we make use of contour lines to make it possible to see height on maps.
what are the other ways we can indicate alititude
spot heights
benchmarks
beacons
contour lines
what is a contour line
it indicates height and it is the brown lines on a map ( 20m away on topographical map and 5m away on a outophotographical map ). It combines all places with the sma ealtitude above sea level.
what are the main characteristics of contour lines
never cross
far apart=gentle slope
close together=steep slope
if the lines touch its a cliff
difference in the altitude between the two contour lines is known as an interval
What is a slope
a slope indicates the steepness of the land
what are the different types of slopes accordign to steepnees
gentle slope ) ) )
steep slope ) ) ) )
uniform slope / / /
what are the two types of slope according to shape
convex ( gentle to steep )
concave ( steep to gentle )
what is a land form
it is a natural phenomenon on the surface of the earth like valleys or plateaus
what is a valley
it bends towards higher values
what is a spur
contours that bends towards the lower values
what are the important rules are valleys and spurs
at valleys the contour lines bend towards the highest values ( uphill ) and at spurs the contour lines bend towards the lowest values ( downhill )
where does a river always flow to
it always flows to the open side of the contours
