A

This shows how Gerald wants to be one of the family. This could explain why he has the same views as the 2 older members of the family (Mr and Mrs Birling).

Q

‘You seem to have a nice well-behaved family’

A

Like the other members of the family with upper class views, he has to critique everything and this is shown in him using the word ‘seem’. It makes you feel like he thinks he has the most power and is above everyone else.

He is supporting Mr Birling, again trying to get onto his good side so they get closer and he can join the family. This also reflects Gerald’s upper class views, which are the same as Mr Birlings

Q

‘Had some affection for her and made her happy for a time’

A

The inspector isn’t too harsh at him and realises he did try to help, although he still did play a part in killing herself. Later on the inspector does get more annoyed which is obvious as he starts coming down a bit harder on Gerald

She was young and pretty and warm-hearted’
‘Soft brown hair and big dark eyes’

A

This shows us Gerald’s opinion of her and that he adored her. This could have been why he cared for he so much. Although it could change the audiences opinion of him as he obviously fell for her and loved her, he didn’t seem to shook to find out she was dead
