  • By 1918, Germany was on the brink, with deadly flu spreading around
  • Kaiser had to give up some of his power to parliament, but all too late and many felt he should step down

    -war pensions for 2 million fatherless
    -factories exhausted by weapon production
    -loans from USA would need paying back
  • Society divided
    -Factory owners made a fortune in war, whereas workers had restrictions on wages
  • Political instability
    -ex-soldiers and civilians felt they could have won the war, and named politicians that surrendered the ‘November criminals’, and refused to support them
