Glenohumeral Joint Flashcards
(14 cards)
What 3 components hold the arm in place against gravity?
Supraspinatus muscle, the capsule, and the coracohumeral ligament.
Anterior muscles of glenohumeral joint?
Pec major, anterior deltoid, coracobrachialis, subscapularis.
Movements produced by pec major, anterior delt, and coracobrachialis are what?
Humeral flexion, adduction, and internal rotation.
What movement is produced by the subscapularis?
Internal rotation
What are the superior muscles of the gleno-humeral joint?
Middle deltoid and supraspinatus
Superior muscles of the glenohumeral joint produce what movement?
Humeral abduction (supraspinatus initiates and middle delt finished abduction)
What happens if the supraspinatus is paralyzed?
The shoulder will subluxate (droop)
What are the posterior muscles of the gleno-humeral joint?
Posterior delt, latissimus dorsi, teres major, infraspinatus, and teres minor.
What posterior muscle is commonly used in swimmers?
Lat
What movements are produced by the posterior delt?
Horizontal abduction, external rotation (because it inserts in lateral aspect of humerus), minor extension
What movements are produced by the lat and it’s helper? What is the helper muscle of the lat?
teres major is the helper muscles. Movements produced are adduction, extension, and internal rotation (because both insert on anterior portion of humerus)
What movement is produced by the infraspinatus and teres minor?
External rotation
What movement is necessary to write across paper and to do your hair?
External rotation
What are the rotator cuff muscles?
Subscapularis, supraspinatus, infraspinatus, and teres minor. They all attach to the humeral head, keeping it in the glenoid cavity and preventing dislocation. Each checks motion in the opposite direction that it produces movement.
