Globalisation Flashcards
(7 cards)
Castells
There is now a global criminal economy worth over 1 trillion per annum
4 major forms of global crime
Drug trade
Human trafficking
Cyber crime
International terrorism
Taylor’s model (5)
Rise in transnational corporations
Production moves to cheaper countries as they can ship globally
Exploitation of the poor in cheaper countries however it is not a crime because it is not against the law there
Western citizens suffer from the work moving abroad and causes working class to commit utilitarian crimes such as theft, robbery this is because there are no jobs available
Globalisation has increased opportunities for financial fraud such as Amazon, Starbucks
Ao3 of Taylor’s model
Marxists - Useful in linking globalisation to capitalism and supports Gordon’s idea on criminogenic capitalism
Too deterministic - Does not explain why some poor people who are exploited do not turn to crime
GLOCAL crime
International links with drug trade but the crime is still in the local area and the sellers go down and not the organisation
Reason why globalisation may lead to an increase in crime
AO1,2,3
AO1 - Deregulation of financial markets
AO2 - Foxcom, risking worker’s health for more money
AO3 - Increased financial fraud, some technically not a crime as it’s in a different country
Another reason why globalisation may lead to an increase in crime
AO1- Availability of cheap air travel (GLOCAL crime)
AO2 - Increased as it’s easier for travel and transport
AO3 - Increased crime such as drug dealing, human trafficking
