Glossary Of Terms V Flashcards
Start Winding
Auxiliary winding added to a single phase motor to help the motor start
Stator
The stationary part of an electric motor winding
Synchronous Motor
AC motor with an average speed that is exactly proportional to its frequency
Synchronous Speed
Rotor speed equal to that of the rotating magnetic field of a motor
Torque
Turning or twisting force
Capacitance
The property of a non-conductor (capacitor) that permits storage of electrical energy in an electrostatic field
Capacitive Reactance
Opposition to the change of flow of alternating current by capacitance that causes the out-of-phase condition of volts and amps
Capacitor
An electrical device that temporarily stores electrical energy measured in farads
Dielectric
The chemically produced insulating material used in the manufacturing of a capacitor
Dual Capacitor
Consisting of two run capacitors in a single capacitor housing, generally for the compressor and condenser fan motor of a condensing unit
