Investigations

A

Endocervical swab –> culture
Vulvovaginal swab –> NAAT
First void urine –> NAAT

Urethral, rectal and pharyngeal swab if symptomatic or MSM

MSU - exclude UTI

Treatment

A

Ceftriaxone 250mg IM
Cefixime 400mg PO
+ Chlamydia Tx

Contact tracing
Refrain from sexual contact until partner is Tx
Admit if disseminated

Complications

A

PID (15% –> PID)
Bartholin’s or Skene’s abscess
Fitz-hugh-curtis syndrome

Extragenital infections - pharyngitis, proctitis, purulent arthritis

Pregnncy risk - PROM, chorioamnionitis, post-partum endometritis, opthalmia neonatorum
