Goodman & Gillman Chapter 2 Flashcards
(5 cards)
Passive Diffusion
. In passive transport the drug molecule penetrates by diffusion along a concentration gradient in the lipid bilayer.
. steady state concentrations
. dependent on the electrochemical gradient for the ion and on pH differences across the membrane.
. weak acids and bases
Facilitated Diffusion
. carrier mediated transport process
Active Transport
. the direct requirement for energy, capacity to move solute against an electrochemical graduent, saturability, selectivity, and competitive inhibition by cotransported compounds
. Na+ and K+-ATPase are important example of active transport mechanism
Paracellular Transport
. p. 15- In the vascular compartment, paracellular passage of solutes and fluid through intercellular gaps is sufficiently large that passive transfer across the endothelium of capillaries and postcapillary vnules is generally limted by blood flow.
