Natural rights
born given rights (cannot be taken away)
Popular Sovereignty
by, nature the power is in the Hands of the PEOPLE
Social Contract
in order to protect their natural rights, they give away their rights (willingly) to government

people elect leaders to represent them and create laws in public interest
Limited government
government is prevented from tyranny through systems of checks and balances
Participatory democracy
broad participation in the political process by most members of society (local)
Pluralist Democracy
groups of people and interest groups to provide people with a voice (interest groups RNA)
Elite democracy
government needs educated people to run it

danger of a large centralized government, could not represent the people properly

fractions are bad (big groups of people thinking they need it better) and only way to control factions is letting them happen since large republic would stop it

Shared by both federal and states (taxes)

given to states as long as they follow the federal strandards
block grants
given to states to spend as they see fit (has control to spend money to met the federal strandards

necessary and proper clause implied certain powers given to the federal government even if they were not said in the constitution (congress getting more power)
