What is peripheral giant cell granuloma and how does it present?

A

Reactive hyperplastic lesion
- Soft tissue purple/blueish/reddish nodule
- contains large multinucleated giant cells

A

Thought to be local irritation
- plaque
- overhanging restorations
- trauma

What is oral Pyogenic granuloma?

A

Soft and often painless mass in oral cavity
- deep red to purple colour
- non lobulated mass of angiomatous tissue
- capillary proliferation

Tx pyogenic granuloma?

A

Surgical excision
- debridement of underlying tissue with 2mm margins
- any foreign body, calculus or defective restorations removed too

What is central giant cell granuloma?

A

Benign aggressive osteolytic neoplasm of maxfacial region
- multinucleated giant cells

CGCG = within jaw bone

PGCG = not in jaw bone

A

- background of plump ovoid and spindle shaped mesenchymal cells

Can be consequence of parathyroid tumour

Clinical presentation of CGCG?

A

Asymptomatic

Or

Rapid hollowing of bone
- cortical expansion
- root resorption
- displacement of adjacent tissues
- pain
