Opening:
To begin with I’d just like to check the reason why you’ve come to see me today. I understand that [state the client’s purpose of the visit]
And you wish to know whether

Perfect, I think it would be best to give you an idea of how this interview will work.
I expect that this interview will last around 25 mins, during which I will ask you some questions about the reasons you have come to see me today. I may then ask you some follow up questions to help me better understand your position and focus in on any potential issues or concerns you may have.
I will be taking notes accordingly and when I believe I have all the necessary information, I will provide some preliminary legal advice. In the closing section of this interview, we can discuss the next steps and how best to move forwards. I will also send to you in a follow up letter following this interview outlining all the information and advice I’ve given you throughout the interview. Does that sound alright?

Accessibility Requriements:
Before we start this interview, I just wanted to check whether there’s anything I can do to make this meeting more accessible for you or if you would benefit from any adjustments?

Costs:
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that the cost of this interview will be charged at my hourly rate of £240 per hour + VAT.
Therefore, because this interview is likely to take 25 minutes the cost will be a maximum of £120. Are you happy to proceed on this basis?
Anti-Money Laundering procedures
Perfect! And just to adhere to anti-money laundering procedures to verify your identity, can I just confirm you’ve brought along two identification documents?
- Yes- Thank-you very much, I’ll take copies after this interview has finished and return the originals to you.
- No- Not to worry but please bring those 2 forms of ID to the office at your earliest convenience.
- I’m afraid I can’t accept copies, even by email unless they are certified copies. So can I ask that you please bring in the originals to the office as soon as possible. We will take copies and return them to you on the spot.”
