La “i” latina –> La “i” griega
(Latin “i” –> Greek “i”)

A

Happens for -aer, -eer, -oir, -uir endings but not -guir:

An “i” between two vowels with no accent becomes a “y” in only él/ellos forms.
ex:
* Caer (to fall)
* Creer (to belive)
* Oír (to listen/hear)
* Construir (to build)

ex. leer
leí
leiste
leyó instead of leió
leimos
leisteis
leyeron instead of leieron

Stem-Changing Verbs

A

ONLY -IR VERBS CHANGE
Endings are same BUT there is stem-change in only él/ellos forms; these are called chancla verbs.

(e–>i) Verbs:
sentir (to feel)
pedir (to ask)
servir (to serve/help)
vestirse (reflexive; to get dressed)
Seguir, Conseguir (to follow, to continue; to obtain)
repetir (to repeat)
reir (to laugh)
sonreir (to smile)
rreferir (to prefer)

(o–>u) Verbs:
dormir

A

ALL FORMS HAVE A CHANGE IN THE STEM (BASE) AND NO ACCENTS (EVEN FOR ENDINGS)!

Endings stay mostly same as the regular endings in Preterito….

Tener –> Tuv-
Estar –> Estuv-
Andar (to walk) –> Anduv-
Poner –> Pus-
Poder –> Pud-
Saber (to know) –> Sup-
Venir (to come) –> Vin-
Querer –> Quis-
Hacer –> Hic- but in él form it is Hizo
Producir (to produce) –> Produj-
Traducir (to translate) –> Traduj-
Conducir (to drive) –> Conduj-
Traer (to bring) –> Traj-
Decir (to say) —> Dij-
