What is visual guidance
Coach demonstrate the skill to the learner. Visual aids are used such as a video pictures or diagrams.
E.g. a coach demonstrating the parts of a triple jump
What is verbal guidance
Coach gives verbal instructions of coaching, tactics or strategies
What is manual guidance
Coach physically manipulates the learners body through the correct movement pattern
E.g. a teacher/coach supporting a handstand
What is mechanical guidance
Coaching uses equipment to aid learning
E.g. using a swimming float or a rig in trampolining

Needs to be an accurate demonstration, otherwise learning will not take place and the learner will not be able to replicate

Learner might not like the close contact

It is an essential method to control emotions and mental state before competition

Can be useful method to help individuals manage feelings, control the level of excitement, manage stress and achieve the correct levels of confidence and motivation
What are the method used to prepare mentally for sports performance
Positive self talk: e.g. an individual before undertaking a long jump might simply say to themselves “I can” or “I will”
Using imagery: performer visualises in his/her mind, the perfect performance or predetermined routine, strategies or techniques
