Q

periodontal disease

A

untreated gingivitis –> P.d–> pocket formation & tooth loss

1st phase:

  1. periodontal ligament deataches at the margin
  2. periodontal pocket, gap opens up at the tooth gingival interface
  3. remains of peridontal membrane & inside of gingiva comes in contact w/ saliva & bacteria= inflammmed

2nd phase:
lack of loading at alveolar bone = bone resorption
periodontal membrane starts to retract
viscous circle is initiated - as more bone is lost and teeth become loose
