Gobind Singh
Created Khalsa. Believed no power could exploit Sikhs. Studied sanskrit. Mission to uphold right and destroy evil. 1699–vaisakhi transform Sikhs into Khalsa. Sikhs who participate in Amrit ceremony become amridhari and wear 5 ks. Declared GGS successor. Ma sand system strengthened— introduced RAGAS. Muslim Saint mian Mir liked him.
Nanak
Deep spiritual thinker. Family were Hindu. Refused sacred threads. Rejected rituals. Developed Langar. 3 day disappearance. Taught that there is only one god. Radical teaching= denouncing castes.

Laid foundations of golden temple designed 4 doors. “My faith is for the people of all casts and creeds.” Declared Sikhs to donate earnings to charity. Complied writings into GGS. Made him a martyr. Included Hindu and Muslim etc. 1606 jahangir ordered how death because of this. Tortured. Introduced masund system.
Tegh Bahadur 9th guru
Remembered as champion of rights for religious freedom. Taught liberation from fear attachment and dependence. Strength to be gained from worship sacrifice and knowledge. Reign of Mughal empire! Emperor Aurangzeb persecuted those who refused to convert. Bahadur beheaded. Poetic entries to GGS, founded city of Anandpur.
