Habitats And Interactions Flashcards

1
Q

List examples of biotic and abiotic components of an ecosystem

A

Biotic is living
Abiotic is not living

Trees are biotic
A rock is abiotic

Biotic and abiotic components are important to keep an ecosystem working, if both components weren’t their organisms could lose necessary habitats and food

Q

Explain how living things obtain their energy requirements.

A

Living things obtain there energy requirements through photosynthesis

  • convert sun (light energy) into glucose (chemical energy)
-producers are the organisms that do this process
    -producers make there own food

Q

Describe the role of producers, consumers and decomposers in a food chain/food web.

A
  1. Producers start the food web by making there own food
  2. First order consumers must be herbivores or omnivores as they eat the producer which is a plant
  3. Second order (and rest of consumers) must be omnivores or carnivore as they feed on the previous consumers
  4. Decomposes eat the remains of the dead animals to give them and the soil energy
  5. This energy is used to grow new producers as it is in the soil.
