What defines an Authentic or Sahih Hadith?
Consistency with other authentic hadiths, Quran, Ijma, and basic Islamic principles.
Alignment with reason, common sense, and natural laws.
Shouldn’t accuse the Prophet’s family or companions.
No excessive praise for specific individuals or tribes.
No severe punishments for minor offenses.
No exaggerated rewards for insignificant deeds.
Non-fabricated reports or admissions of fabrication by the narrator.
An unbroken chain of narrators.
Narrators should be trustworthy, pious, knowledgeable, have good memory, of mature age, Muslim, and mentally stable.
Direct interaction between narrators and individuals sharing the hadith.
Higher qualifications of the narrator increase the authority of hadith.
What is an Approved or Hasan Hadith?
Similar to Authentic hadith, but some narrators had defective memory.
What characterizes a Weak or Zae’ef Hadith?
If any narrator in the chain was known to be a liar or have a bad memory, or if he had not met the person he was supposed to be narrating from.
What is a Fabricated Hadith?
When a saying or action was attributed to the Prophet that he had not said or done.
Who were the main narrators of Hadith by companions?
Abu Huraira narrated 5374 hadith, Abdullah Bin Umar narrated 2630, Anas Bin Malik narrated 2286, Hazrat Ayesha narrated 2210.
What is the significance of Suhuf in Hadith compilation?
Compiled hadiths in journals called Suhuf, orally transmitted from teachers to students.

Chain of transmitters; a perfect isnad starts from a companion and transmitters should be honest, have met each other, have good memory, and be of the age that they understand hadith.
What is Matn in the context of Hadith?
Context of hadiths; a perfect matn does not contradict the Quran, is not against common sense or facts, does not accuse companions or praise a tribe, and is in Quraish dialect with no bad words.
What is the relationship between Hadith and the Quran?
They are the 2nd primary source of Islamic Law. Hadith is used when the Quran is silent on a matter.
What is Ijma in Islamic law?
Used when both Quran and Hadith are silent on a matter; it can’t contradict Quran and Hadith.
