What are the procedure for Surgical Hand Scrubbing (Steps 1-8)
A
- Put on surgical cap, shoe covers, a mask, and if necessary, protective eye gear.
- Cap or hood: all facial and head air must be completely covered.
- Shoe covers are worn.
- Mask should cover the nose and mouth snugly.
- Examine hands and forearms for cuts and abrasions.
- Remove all jewelry.
- Prepare the materials.
- Turn on water using knee or foot controls and adjust to proper water flow.
- Perform medical hand washing.
- Clean fingernails with nail clear or orange stick under running water and discard after use.
- Rinse hands and arms thoroughly under running water. Keep hands above the elbow.

What are the Procedure for Surgical Hand Scrubbing (Steps 9-18)
A
- Scrub nails of the non-dominant hand first with thirty (30) strokes.
- Scrub all sides of the fingers, five (5) strokes per side, starting from the thumb to small finger.
- Scrub the back of the hand in circular motion, 20 strokes.
- Scrub the palm of the hand in circular motion, 20 strokes.
- Continue scrubbing the arm in circular motion with friction for 15 strokes each in the lower, middle, and upper arm.
- Repeat steps 9 to 13 for the dominant hand.
- After scrubbing the second arm, drop the brush.
- Rinse the hands, keeping the fingertips higher than the elbow.
- Turn off water with foot or knee control.
- Leave the scrub area with hands higher than the elbows.
