What are hardcopy devices?
They produce hardcopy output which can come in the form of information printed on paper, film or 3d printed objects
What are printers?
Printers are used to store and present all kinda on information on different types of materials such as paper, film and vynil.
What Are character printers?
Printers that print one character at a time (very slow)
What are line printers?
Printers that print one line at a time and are faster than character printers
What are page printers?
Printers that print a whole page at a time. Used to print a large volume of pages
What are impact printers
Impact printers bas a print head that contains metal hammers and pins that strike an inked ribbon placed between the print head and paper. The print head can contain metal pins or letters and characters
What is a dot matrix printer
Printer that uses a metal print head to strike the ribbon to impact the page and characters were formed by multiple dots in the page. The quality of the image is measured by the no. Of pins in the print head. The speed of the printed was measured in characters per seconds
What are non-impact printers?
Printers that dont strike the page with the print head, allowing them to be faster and more efficient quality printers
What are inkjet printers?
A printer that produces characters and images by spraying ink into a page. The quality of the image is measured in dpi and the speed is measured in ppm
What are laser printers?
Printers that use electrostatic process to print. A laser is combined with a dried powdered ink called toner to produce a fine dot matrix pattern. Laser printer have a high dpi and a high ppm
What are thermal printers?
A type of printer that uses heat to transfer information onto a special paper.
What are plotters?
A plotter is an output device that is used to output high quality and resolution images, graphs and charts on large scale sheets of paper and even vinyl. They are used to produce architectural drawings, building plans, maps and banners. The three type of plotters are
1) penplotters
2) inkjet plotters
3) electrostatic plotters
What are 3d printers?
Printers that create a physical 3 dimensional object by layering specific materials one on top the other such as polymer, plastics, metal alloys and even food ingredients. 3d printing is used in the medical industry, engineering industry and even the food industry
What’s microfilm and microfiche?
Microfilm is an output of information onto a roll of film.
Microfiche is the output of information onto rectangular sheets of information.
