HARDWARE Flashcards
Motherboard
Allows communication between electronic components in a system, provides connectors to other peripherals
Internal Clock
Every computer computer contains an internal clock,
I regulates the rate of which instructions are executed
synchornize all of their calculations. This ensures that the various circuits inside a computer Work together at the same time
CPU
Handles all the basic system instructions such as processing mouse and key board input, and running applications
ALU arithmetic logic unit
Performs arithmetic and logical operations
Numbers are added and muliplied here
Control Unit
Controls and Coordinates the other components of the computer - controls the instructions from the CPU
Manages direct operations by interpreting instructions
Buses
Wires and connectors that link CPU to primary storage.)RAM)
Pathway for data to travel
RAM (random access memory)
Stores program and data when processor is not using it.
ROM - read only memory
It refers to computer memory chips containing permanent or semi permanent data
Even after you turn off your computer the contents of ROM will remain
CMOS
CMOS uses battery power to retain information even when the power to the computer is off
Hard disk
Is an electro mechanical data storage device that uses magnetic storage to store and retrieve digital data
using one or more rigid rapidly rotating platters coated with magnetic material
Expansions Slots
Slots for special circuits boards.
They have ports to plug input and output devices for keyboards, mouse, monitor
Used for the computer to communicate with the outside world
Módem
A device that converts signals produced by one type of device to a form compatible with another
Bits
Computer operates with a basic two number system
Bits only has two possible values, 1 or 0
Bytes - Binary Number
The set and collection of bits
The byte is a unit of data that is presented with eight binary digits long.
ASCII characters set is used to represent characters
Touch Screen
A screen that can be managed by touching or interacting
OCR )optical character recognition)
A technology that is used to automate data from written or printed texts into the web
Screen
A flat surface in a electronic device which displays the data instructed
Keyboard
A device that allows you to enter numbers, letters and symbols into your computer
Barcode Scanner
A portal or fixed input device that collects and reads data from a bar code
Projector
A device that produces images generated by computers onto screens
OMR )Optical Mark recognition)
It is a method of entering data into a computer system
They read pencil or pen mark on paper
Computer Perhiperals
Is an auxiliary device such as a computer mouse or keyboard that connects to and works with a device in some way
Ex keyboard, mouse etc
Sensor
A hardware device that can measure physical properties like temperature, movement, noice
Printer
Machines that transforms an image into text from a computer into physical paper
