A

Role; makes laws, or fix laws that have already been made. The house of reps is where the government is formed and where the peoples interests are represented.

Define and give an example of the types of voting systems:
a) First-past the post
b) Preferential

A

First-past the post: each voter makes a mark next to one candidate on the ballot paper. The candidate who wins the most votes in each constituency is elected.

Preferential: The term “preferential voting” means voters can indicate an order of preferences for candidates on the ballot paper, i.e. who they want as their 1st choice, 2nd choice and so on. Back to top.

Proportional: is the term which describes a group of electoral systems used to elect candidates in multi-member electorates. Parties, groups and independent candidates are elected to the Parliament in proportion to the number of votes they receive.
