Hazardous Effects Of High Energy, Electromagnetic Wave Flashcards
(16 cards)
What happens as the frequency of the waves increases?
So does the energy and it becomes large enough to ionize atoms beyond the visible part of the spectrum. Danger associated with them increases along with the frequency
What is the radiation dose?
A measure of the risk of harm, resulting from an exposure of the body to ionizing radiation
Danger of microwave
Possible heat damage to internal organ
Infrared dang
Skin burns
Visible light dangers
Can cause damage to the eye and retina
Ultraviolet dangers
I damage, sun, skin cancer
X-rays danger and gamma rays danger
Kill cells, mutation, cancer
What is the difference between microwaves used for communication and microwaves used for heating food
Communication I meant very small amount of energy however food emit very large amount of energy, but can be prevented from escaping oven
Can ultraviolet be dangerous
Yes, it is ionizing meaning it can kill cells or caused them to malfunction resulting in premature, aging and disease diseases, such as skin cancer. it is invisible and carries higher energy than visible light
What can radio waves be used for?
Communication radio, and TV
Microwave uses
Heating food and communication
Infrared wave use
Remote control, fiber optic communication, infrared
Visible light use
Seeing taking photos, fiber optic communications
UV uses
Security marking getting a suntan energy efficient lamps
X-ray uses
X-ray images medicine airport security
Gamma rayuses
Sterilizing medical instruments and treating cancer
