What should you ensure you review to mitigate risks before an inspection?
- The legal position. Make sure you know the liabilities and responsibilities of yourself, your client and your employer
- Insurance - Both site and yourself are protected by insurance
- Pre-inspection risk assessment
- PPE
- Health and safety policies and processes (both site and employer)
What usual PPE will a valuer carry?
- Hard hat
- Hi-visibility jacket
- Steel toe cap and mid sole safety boots
- Ear protection
- Goggles
- Mobile phone
What are the 5 steps to a risk assessment?
- Identify the hazards
- Decide who might be harmed and how
- Evaluate the risks and decide on precautions
- Record your findings and implement them.
- Review your assessment and update if necessary
What is white asbestos called?
Chrysotile
Often used in cement, friction materials and insulation
What is blue asbestos called?
Crocidolite (most harmful)
Often used for heat resistance in pipe insulation and spray on coatings
What is brown asbestos called?
Amosite
Often used in construction materials such as insulation boards, ceiling tiles and cement sheets
When did the UK ban the import and use of blue (crocidolite) and brown (amosite) asbestos?
