Health Psychology Flashcards
(11 cards)
Someone’s response to a health problem is based on their understanding and evaluating the effect of any action they take to solve it
Self-regulatory model
Preconceived ideas that people have about symptoms associated with a common health problem
Disease prototypes
Where what people believe about the cause of a health problem will determine how they treat it (internal v external cause)
Attribution theory
A person’s behaviour is influenced by their perception of control over their health (internal, external cause)
Health locus of control
A person’s intention to carry out an action directly determines if that action is carried out. Intention can be influenced by attitudes, subjective norms and perceived behavioural control and barriers
Theory of Planned behaviour
A person’s behaviour in response to a health problem is linked to the perceived severity, susceptibility, benefits, barriers, their self-belief and cues to action
