Q

What is anaemia?

A

Most common cause is losing blood, can be due to a bleeding gastric ulcer or a parasitic infection.

Haemolytic anaemia, haemolysis due to an agent. Either immune-haemolytic agent, like a blood-group incompatibility between mother/father or living agents such as mycoplasma suis.
Leptospira can also cause haemolytic anaemia, or cytomegalovirus infection

Nutritional anaemia
Lack of iron, copper, cobalt or essential amino acid. Most commonly the lack of ion

Q

What is iron deficiency anaemia in piglets?

A

The storing ability of the piglet is weak, huge growing potential. The balance in the iron storage is destroyed and the piglet will become anaemia.
We have two different types: severe and mild.

Q

What is methaemoglobin anaemia?

A

Also called = nitrate poisoning

The nitrate is transforming into nitritt, which is modifying the haemoglobin to haemiglobin, because it is oxidising the iron ions. Through this there will be a failure in the oxygen transport. Biological air filters, the bacteria will break down the ammonia into nitrite and nitrate.
