What were some general failures of Henry’s reign due to his character? (4)

A
  1. General lack of experience (particularly following the end of his minority in November 1437).
  2. Strong interest for pacifism (such as a willingness to give up foreign lands).
  3. Mental and physical weakness allowed for outside influences (such as Margaret and Richard D.O.Y) to manipulate and control his reign.
  4. Generous and regular use of patronage.

What were some general failures of Henry’s reign due to other factors? (3)

  1. Highly ambitious nobility.
  2. Crown bankrupt by 1450 (partly due to Henry’s patronage).
  3. The Great Slump (trade depression) affected England from the 1430’s - 1480’s.
