A

Pope said he could put his marriage on trial and sent Cardinal Campeggio, to help give a judgment on the marriage. After months of deliberations, the Pope refused to grant Henry his annulment.

A

Church was selling indulgences! Priests were not behaving well. German priest called Martin Luther started to protest about the church and how it was behaving. His followers became know as protestants.

What were the 4 criticisms of the catholic church?

A
  • church too rich - 1/3 land of all England - peasant had to give 10% to priest evert year
  • priests did not lead a holy life
  • ordinary people could not
    understand the church services because they were not in English
  • poor people could not afford indulgences -
    when a person died a person to heaven or hell - whilst you were alive you could buy indulgence to travel through purgatory quicker.
