What was hoover infamously referred to as?
The most competent and incompetent man on the planet.
As a young man, what was Hoover famous for?
He was a famous mining engineer organising operations across the world - He was also an amazing philanthropist
What did Woodrow Wilson appoint him for during WW1?
Appointed Hoover to organise food aid across Europe.
What did President Harding and President Coolidge appoint him to do?
Was asked to organise the economy as a secretary of commerce- the economy then boomed.
Why was it a no brainer that he was elected president in 1928?
The fantastic job he was doing under other presidents and his personal accolades but also the fact that the very popular Coolidge surprisingly did not run a second term.
Why was Hoover labelled a different type of republican progressive?
As he had a philosophy that the social problems arising could be attacked scientifically - But did not want the federal govt to do the attacking.
Why was the great depression important for Hoover?
It put his philosophy to the test - and as the economy fell in 1929, Hoover resisted a federal response.
What was Hoovers initial response to the great depression.
He tried to collect federal data and co-ordinate the efforts of states, charities and companies to turn it around.
What was Hoovers final response to the great depression?
Eventually when things got worse, he finally pushed for more government spending to aid in the fight against the depression.
What did Hoover refuse to do?
He refused to take any action that might be unconstitutional.
What will Hoover always be remembered by, though unfair?
That he was a brilliant organiser but a terrible politician.
That he would be remembered for his paralysis during an economic disaster.
