how and when did the steel pan come about

A

The Steel pan, originated in Trinidad and tobago by African slaves. The development began in the late 1930s with the use of paint tins and dustbins. It later continued in the 1940s with larger containers such as oil drums, worn around necks with the tops hammered and grooved to produce new sound.
