Define health status
an individual’s or a population’s overall health (and wellbeing), taking into account various aspects such as life expectancy, amount of disability and levels of disease risk factors
Define social health and wellbeing
Relates to the ability to form meaningful and satisfying relationships with others and the ability to manage or adapt appropriately to different social situations
Define Health
Health refers to the physcial, mental, social, emotion and spirital health of an individual
Define Morbidity
Refers to ill health in an individual and the levels of ill health in a population or group.
State the WHO definition of health and wellbeing
Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity
Identify strength and weakness of this definition
Strength: includes 3/5 dimensions and ‘not merely the absence of disease or infirmity’ means its achieve able
weakness: the ‘complete’ means it is almost impossible to reach and even harder to maintain
Aspects of mental health
Positive self esteem, confidence, levels of stress, feelings, thought patterns, process information
Aspects of spiritual health
Sense of belonging, peace and harmony, purpose in life, values and personal beliefs
define mental health and wellbeing
Relates to the state of a person’s mind or brain and relates to the ability to think and process information.
How does social health affect mental health?
Those who have positive and stable relationships are more likely to have better mental health
How does physical health affect mental health?
People who excercise regularly have less chance of developing mental illnesses

Define SES (socioeconomic status)
is a person’s economic and social position in society compared to other people based on income, occupation and education
What can change a persons perspective/priority of health and wellbeing
age, gender, religion, culture, SES
how does physical health affect emotional health
Exercise in general is associated with a better mood and improved quality of life.
Define wellbeing
The state of being comfortable, healthy, happy or capable
Define Health and Wellbeing
the state of a person’s physical, social, emotional, mental and spiritual existence and is characterised by an equilibrium in which the individual feels happy, healthy, capable and engaged
Define YLL (years of life lost)
A measure of how many years of expected life are lost due to premature death
Define YLD (years lost due to disability)
measures the proportion of healthy life lost due to living with a disease
Define DALY ( disability adjusted life years)
A measure of burden of disease, one DALY equals one year of healthy life lost due to premature death plus time lived with illness, disease or injury.

Define prevalence
The total number of cases of a condition in a population at a given time
Define life expectancy
an indication on how long somebody is expected to live (as long as the current death rates stay the same
define incidence
Refers to the number of new cases of a condition in a population at a given time
