High Voltage Cable Types Flashcards
Chapter 5 - HV Cable Types review

Q
What are three common high voltage cable types.
A
- Concentric Neutral (URD - underground residential distribution) has a metallic insulation shield with as much ampacity as the current-carrying conductor. The primary application of this cable is for single-phase, underground, residential distribution
- TECK cables were originally developed for the mining industry, but they are used now in refineries, chemical plants, multi-storey office towers, commercial buildings, and medium and heavy industry.
- Shielded The metallic parts have no ampere rating and cannot be used for equipment grounding purposes or as return neutrals. Shielded cables are used for power applications in many places, including industrial plants, sub-stations, refineries and generating stations.
