What are the two types of glands
Endocrine gland
Exocrine gland
Explain endocrine gland
- They are ductless glands
- They release secretions directly onto the bloodstream or onto the nearby connective tissue
- The target is distant organs
Explain exocrine gland
- They secrete via ducts
- Secreted onto the internal or external epithelial surface
- Secretions are usually localised to nearby locations
Name the three secretion types in exocrine gland
Eccrine/merocrine
Apocrine
Holocrine
Explain eccrine
It is when the secretory granule rises up to the apical surface of the gland
Fuses with the surface
And release the granule onto the lumen
Example sweat gland
Explain the Apocrine Gland
It is a type of secretion in the exocrine gland where the secretory granule pinches off part of the cell surface onto the lumen
Example mammary gland
Explain the Holocrine Gland
It is a type of secretion seen in the exocrine gland where the cell explodes during the release of the granule
Example sebaceous Gland
What type of secretion is present in the sweat gland
Eccrine or Merocrine
What type of secretion is present in the mammary gland
Apocrine
What type of secretion is present in the sebaceous gland
Holocrine
What are the three types of signalling mechanism seen in glands
Paracrine
Autocrine
Endocrine
Define how the paracrine signalling is
In paracrine signalling the adjacent cell receptors are signalled to
Define how the autocrine signalling is
Signalling happens on the same cell.
Define how the endocrine signalling is
Signalled for far away target cells via blood
Which are the three types of exocrine glands and explain
Mucous Glands that produce thick mucin secretions
Serous Glands that produce water secretion
Mixed seromucous glands that produce a mixure of both secretions
