How did English ideas about government and trade affect the colonies
The English ideas about government affected the colonies greatly. The colonist still kept the idea of taxes and branches. But they added in things like a representative democracy. They traded with the old world. The trade has to go to England first. The stuff that was sold in the New World had to arrive in British ships.
A written list of freedoms that a government promises to protect
Bill of rights
The principle that a person cannot be held in prison without being charged with a specific crime
Habeas corpus
The right of journalists to publish the truth without restriction or penalty
Freedom of the press
The publishing of of statements that damage a persons reputation
Libel
Is a family that includes in addition to the parents and their children, other members such as grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins
Extended family
Someone who learns a trade by working for someone in that trade for a certain period of time
Apprentice
Were the upper class of colonial society

Made up of small planters, independent farmers and artisans
Middle class
Signed a contract to work from 4 to 10 years in the colonies who would pay for his or her ocean passage to the Americas

What were the characteristics of colonial society
The characteristics of the colonial society are much like they are today. They had their upper class and middle class. They all had specific jobs and worked together.
How did slavery develop in the colonies and effect colonial life?
Slavery had a big impact on the colonies. Because of slave labor farmers could plant huge plantations and it would be pure profit because they didn’t have to pay for the labor. This made the colonies very rich.

Ideas about religion and government greatly shaped the colonies. One example is the Massachusetts Bay colony. They wanted to purify the old Church of England. Many people wanted rights for all men in the new colonies.
