Eval:
Crushed any basic will to resist - together with propaganda, made people afraid to speak out and unsure of what to believe
Without fear, other factors like propaganda will become less effective - which is why there was no direct challenge on the regime publicly after 1933
Propaganda
Goebells’ Propaganda Machine - Media, Radio, Film, Art (Degenerate Art)
Strength Through Joy
Hitler Youth
Nuremberg Rallies
Book Burnings in Berlin
Narratives of the Jews - November Criminals, Stab in the back theory
Eval:
Indoctrinated many young people and many Germans believed Hitler was the saviour and believed in his vision
For the unconvinced, fear kept them quiet
Some opposition existed through the lies such as the Edelweiss Pirates or the White Rose, which shows that the propaganda wasn’t foolproof
Elimination of Political Opposition
Reichstag Fire + Decree
Kristallnacht
Eval:
Crucial early on because there wasn’t any legitimate or legal alternative to Hitler’s rule
Any attempt of resistance had to be secretive or underground, making it easier for the Nazis to root our and destroy
Economic and Social Improvement
Gleischaltung
6 million unemployed workers given jobs through things like public works e.g. the Autobahn
Eval:
Moderately significant

The desire to resist wasn’t that strong especially among the middle classes and the working population - bulk of society
Believed it was improving their lives, but this was superficial trust and was thus undermined when conditions became worse during the war
