Homeostasis Flashcards
(6 cards)
What is homeostasis?
Regulation of internal conditions
What are 3 things homeostasis controls?
- Blood glucose concentration
- Body temperature
- Water levels.
How are urea, water and ions removed [from the body]?
By the kidneys in urine
What hormone controls water level?
ADH (negative feedback cycle)
Give an example of how temperature is controlled
thermoregulatory centre->body temperature too low blood vessels constrict (vasoconstriction) ->sweating stops and skeletal muscles contract, causing shivering->body temperature rises
What happens to protein when its digested?
When protein is digested amino acid is produced and it is deaminated in the liver to form ammonia. Then it is converted to urea.
