Homeostasis exam questions Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
What role does the hypothalamus have in thermoregulation?
A
- When it senses that body temp is too high or too low it sends signals to muscles, organs and glands and nervous system.
- this then triggers the body’s mechanisms of either cooling down or heating up the body
2
Q
Describe what happens to the blood vessels in thermoregulation?
A
- talk about vasodilation and vasoconstriction and ehy this happens.
3
Q
Why is the skin efficient in maintaining a consistent core temperature?
A
-The skin has temperature receptors which signals the hypothalamus the makes changes this then signals muscles in the skin yo either keep heat in or keep it out.
4
Q
What two roles do muscles play in thermoregulation?
A
- Regulate shivering and sweating, they also contract or relax to control hairs on the skin
5
Q
Why is the core temp set at 37C?
A
- Because our enzymes work most effectively at that temperature
