How Do Organisms Reproduce? Flashcards
(13 cards)
What do you mean by vegetative propagation?
Development of new plants from a vegetative part of the plant like roots, stems, leaves etc is called vegetative propagation. They do not take part in sexual reproduction.
➡️Artificial and Natural
🔸️Artificial- 🔹️Cutting:- Rose
🔹️Layering:- Jasmine
🔹️Grafting:- Mango
🔸️Natural- 🔹️Roots:- Carrot, Betroot
🔹️Stems:- Onion, Ginger
🔹️Leaves:- Bryophyllum, Begonia
What do you mean by Regeneration?
The ability of an organism to give rise to a new individual from their body parts is called regeneration.
In this case, when the body of an organism is cut into pieces, each piece develops into a full organism.
Eg:- Hydra, Planaria
What do you mean by budding?
In budding, a small outgrowth called bud develops from one specific side of the parent body.
This bud grows and later gets detached from the parent body and later develops as new individuals.
Eg:- Hydra, Yeast
What do you mean by Fragmentation?
The organism breaks up into smaller pieces or fragments. Upon maturation, each fragments develops into new individual.
Eg:- Spirogyra
What do you mean by Binary Fission?
A type of fission in which two daughter cells are formed from one parent.
Eg:- Amoeba, Leishmania
Leishmania causes ______
Kala-azar
What do you mean by multiple fission?
A type of fission in which many daughter cells are formed from one parent.
Eg:- Plasmodium
Plasmodium is:-
a) What kind of microorganism?
b) cause?
a) Protozoan
b) Malaria
What do you mean by Asexual Reproduction?
Reproduction by a single organism is called asexual reproduction.
OR
Asexual Reproduction in which new individuals are formed from a single parent.
What are the two types of fission?
Binary fission and Multiple fission
Rhizopus:-
a) is involved in which kind of formation?
b) is it a single-celled organism or multicellular organism?
c) what kind of microorganism it is?
d) Explain it’s structure and the formation of it’s new individual.
a) Spore formation
b) multicellular organism
c) Fungus
d) Rhizopus is a multicellular fungus whose body is made up of whip-like structure called HYPHAE. During asexual reproduction, these hyphae give rise to erect stalks which bears sacs at it’s tips called SPORANGIA. Each sporangium contains a large number of spores. Matured spores are liberated from the sporangium and when they fall on a suitable surface, they germinate to give rise to new hyphae.
What is reproduction? What are the two types of reproduction?
Reproduction is the process by which living organisms produce their own kind.
There are two types of reproduction:-
a) Asexual Reproduction
b) Sexual Reproduction
We notice organism because?
We notice organism because they reproduce.
