How do the cognitive studies (4) link to cognitive area? Flashcards
(4 cards)
Loftus & Palmer- Eyewitness testimony- Memory
Cognitive because of subject matter- Memory. Study shows impact post-event information can have on memory, even to point of producing false memories (second experiment).
Grant et al- Context dependent memory- Memory
Shows another way memory can be affected- whether info is recalled in similar context to that it was first encountered (studied).
In contrast to Loftus & Palmer, this research explains how memory can be enhanced rather than distorted.
Moray- Auditory attention- Attention
Cognitive because of its subject matter- Attention. Sought to investigate auditory attention; comprises of 3 experiments, on investigating ‘cocktail party effect’ and what kind of info breaks attentional barrier is dicussed.
Simons & Chabris- Visual inattention- Attention
Builds on Moray’s work by investigating visual attention (as opposed to auditory).
Explains why we may not recall info that we see, but do not pay attention to.
