How is biodiversity in the biomes being affected? Flashcards
(4 cards)
Boreal forest - over-exploitation
Continuing impact, this means that species such as the northern hawk and woodland caribou are going to be threatened.
Boreal forest - pollution
Very rapidly increasing - this will increase climate change which will alter habitats and move tree lines north. Animals and plants may not be able to adapt in time.
Tundra - climate change
Very rapid increase which will have a high impact on biodiversity - extensive melting of ice, danger to species who rely on the ice for habitats. But permafrost melting allows for more plant growth - agriculture may be possible and methane is released.
The Koppen climate classification Tundra climate area has shrunk by 20% since 1980.
Boreal forest - climate change
Very rapid increase of the impact of climate change - biodiversity will be altered negatively because it will cause habitat destruction and some species will not be able to adapt.
