How to: ORP Flashcards

1
Q

What is an ORP?

A

An Objective Rally Point is the final point your platoon will stop before conducting a leaders recon/actions on objective. You would use it for everything except movement to contact.

Q

What are three things to keep in mind when plotting an ORP?

A

Out of sight, out of sound, within small arms range of the OBJ. It should generally be where you want to go back to after actions on the OBJ. ORPs are always tentative until the OBJ is officially pinpointed. Pinpoint where the ORP will be by doing a final security halt in a cigar shape (1st squad top, 2nd squad either side, 3rd squad bottom) and perform a leaders recon

Q

What is the difference between establishing a LP/OP and putting an ammo bearer at the 6 o’clock when establishing an ORP?

A

An LP/OP is used to establish a patrol base. We are establishing an ORP which is temporary and for mission use. No need to dog leg 90 degrees when going in. Use your three ammo bearers to form each apex of the ORP

Q

How does the leaders recon clear a potential ORP?

A

Doctrinally, start at 6 to 12, 9, 3 and back to 6. Or everyone can get on line and clear the entre area of the patrol base.

Q

How will the platoon enter the ORP?

A

First squad will enter at the 6 o’clock where the WSL is and take a right to the 2 o’clock and then a left from the 2 to the 10 o’clock. They will spread themselves equally between the 10 and the 2. 2nd squad will follow 1st squad and occupy the 2-6. 3rd squad will occupy the 10-6.

Q

What do you do to set up a hasty ORP?

A

The PL initiates a security halt once they think the platoon has reached the ORP spot. The PL will go up to 1st squad and establish a 6 and 12 o’clock apex. The rest of 1st squad will gather at HQ in between and then ASS1 and ASS2 will file in from 6 o’clock apex to make either side of cigar shape. The majority of security squad and rest of HQ will prepare to go on a leaders recon.
