How to go about teaching children…

A
  1. do activities that ease them into music- use simple, easy to learn instruments (Xylophone or drum) or vocal pieces with limited range (high to low) requirements and simple lyrics.
  2. help them physicalize (moving your body with the beat/easy- when you sing low, move your body low, or tap your foot to the rhythm) elements of music
  3. use music as a way to learn about other cultures.

Time signature

A

aka meter signature (the fraction) 4/4 3/4

Numerator- tells us the number of beats in a measure
Demoninator -tells us what kind of note receives one beat (e.g. half note versus a quarter note)

  1. determines if the piece is marked with sharps or flats

2. if no sharps or flats, the key is in C major (or A minor, its relative minor)

Which notes are flats- how do you count the key signature

A

Farm Boys Eat Apple Dumplings Greedily. Count the number of flats.
Count how many flats are in the signature and count up the rhyme. so if there are 4 flats, A is the key flat sig.
If there are 2, B flat sig.

A

count the sharps
if theres 3- A sharp signature
if theres 2- D sharp sign
