human genetics Flashcards
(3 cards)
What is genetic determinism?
genes invariably determine characters [or ‘capacities’ or ‘tendencies’], so that the outcomes are just a little, or not at all, affected by changes in the environment or by the different environments in which individuals live
Recessively inherited disorders
a genetic disorder is not evenly distributed among all racial or cultural groups. These disparities results from the different genetic histories of the world’s peoples during less technological times, when population were more geographically, hence genetically, isolated
Cystic fibrosis (much higher f in Caucasians)
Tay-Sachs disease (much higher f in Ashkenzic Jews)
Sickle cell anaemia (much higher f in Blacks)
