Human interactions in Hot Desert biome Flashcards
(4 cards)
Intro: what is a biome, info on hot desert biome
A biome is a natural world region made up of four components: climate, soil, flora, fauna.
The hot desert biome is an arid region that covers 14% of the world’s surface.
A hot desert is an arid (dry) region with a moisture deficit.
A moisture deficit is when a region loses more moisture than it gains
Got deserts are generally located 15-30 degrees north and south of the equator.
There are three types of hot desert.
Extremely Arid: little to no precipitation per annum
Arid: less than 250mm precipitation per annum
Semi-Arid: 250-300mm precipitation per annum
The type of desert depends on the trade winds, continentality and high pressure belts.
Overgrazing, over ripping and industrial development have affected the Sahel region
Reason for overgrazing
Overgrazing leaving to development of sedentary farming
Overgrazing and sedentary farming causing depleted water tables
