1
Q

DNA

A

is twisted and supercoiled into Chromosomes. Its function is to encode a detailed set of plans for building different cell parts. DNA is found in the nucleus.

Q

Genes

A

An instruction manual for our body. They are the direction for building all the proteins that make our bodies function. Made of DNA.

Q

Chromosomes

A

Thread-like structure in the nucleus. Composed of DNA and proteins; contains the genetic information in the form of genes.

Q

Cell Division

A

ells divide to create daughter cells through the processes of Mitosis and Meiosis
Cell division processes, purpose:
Mitosis: multicellular organisms: growth and repair damaged tissue
Single-celled organisms: reproduction-asexual: offspring are clones
Meiosis: to produce haploid gametes for sexual reproduction

Q

Mitosis

A

A type of cell division that results in two daughters cells each having the same number and kind of chromosomes as the parent nucleus.
